#GivingTuesday: Renee’s 2018 Suggestions

Giving Tuesday is one of my favorite days of the year! Last year, I shouted out 10 organizations and individuals that I deeply appreciated as suggestions for others to donate to. I wanted to continue that this year and in order to have a central place for all the links, figured I’d do a Medium post! FYI they’re in no particular order of importance. Happy #GivingTuesday!

Critical Exposure

I work here so sort of a shameless plug, but I love being here and the work we do to train young people to be social justice advocates while using photography as a tool to make change!

Alumnae Association of the Harriet E. Richards Cooperative House

The “HER House” is a cooperative living situation for undergraduate women at Boston University — established in 1928. I lived here my junior and senior years of college and it literally changed my life, allowed me to stay at BU, and blessed me with a family and legacy of amazing women.

Service Year Alliance

I served in AmeriCorps for two years and not only did it steer me towards my purpose, but there’s been some fantastic people a part of AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Alums (now a part of Service Year Alliance) that have greatly supported me and keep fighting for funding and support of impactful service years. #AmeriCorpsWorks

Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative

A resident-led organization that I had the absolute pleasure of working with during my AmeriCorps year — I learned so much about youth development, community organizing, and the importance of resident voice and power.

The Bronx Book Festival

In the midst of my hometown, the Bronx, losing its primary bookstore this year to a retail store, The Bronx Book Festival brought new life to literacy in Bronx this year and I can’t wait to see how it continues to grow in the years to come. #TheBronxisReading

Your local …

As always, make sure you support your local whatever! It’s so important to support and build up the organizations, the businesses, and the great work that is for us, by us. If you know me, you know I’m an especially big fan of libraries because they serve such a crucial role in every community so please consider donating to your local library, community center, youth-serving organization, business, etc.

YOU!

You can’t pour from an empty cup so don’t forget to give a little time and love to yourself as well. ♥️

Thanks for reading!

P.S. Don’t worry if you can’t give what you’d like today, helping spread the word of #GivingTuesday for your favorite organizations is a good way to support and I’m pretty sure donating on any of the other 364 days of the year is also greatly appreciated.
